Perfect day for Rains in Chennai, KTC, Vellore, Ranipet, Tvmalai and Pondy

We have UAC in the lower to mid levels 700 hpa (3.1 kms) from surface, located north east of Chennai, it brings perfect convergence zone for North TN. Morning itself we are seeing ideal conditions with dark clouds lurking around.

As day goes on with more heating things will become much better for rains in North TN which includes KTCC (Kanchepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai & Chengalpet). The other districts such as Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Pondy, Villupuram, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Salem and Dharampuri will also be in line of rains.

Negatives:  The steering winds are slow. But if we fall on path of storms, semma damal dumeel with stand and deliver rains.

  • Another perfect day for veppasalanam (convective) rains in North TN with rains in Krishnagiri, Vellore, Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Pondy, Tvmalai, Ranipet Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Cuddalore, Delta belts of Thanjavur, Nagai, Tiruvarur, Ariyalur, Villupuram, Kallakuruchi and etc.
  • Kanyakumari will see monsoon rains from west. South Kerala (Alapuzha, Eranakulam, Idukki, Kollam, Trivandrum, Pathanamthitta Kottayam will see heavy rains too with SW monsoon rains.
  • Chennai too has its favorite NW winds so Thunderstorms are possible here and there in the city today and next 3-4 days.
  • Bangalore too will another rainy day with convergence right it.
  • Chittor belt and upper Kosasthalyar basin will have more rains. So more inflows can be expected into Poondi. Before start of monsoon itself Surplus water from Poondi is opened. How often we see this. Rare very rare indeed (maybe 1996). Chennai indeed has a blessed year in terms of water.

Rain intensity to increase in TN, Kerala and Karnataka, while Nilgiri Dons are awaken

Even now massive rains are happening in Cauvery catchment and Nilgiris belt. Till 4.00 pm the rainfall in Nilgiris was massive with Mukurthy 187 mm, Avalanche 118 mm and Upper Bhavani 73 mm and today will can expect huge numbers on 5th August, 2020. In Wayanad Catchement too there is massive rains till now. The rainfall is set to increase a notch from today with very heavy to extreme rains possible in Mallapuram and Nilgirs belt.  Very heavy rains will be expected in Valparai, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Eranakulam, Palghat, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kasargode, Kodagu, Hassan and Chikmagalur districts.

Watch out for Upper Bhavani, Avalanche, Mukurthy, Parsons Valley and Siruvani dam rains.

We are into 2nd day and the rains have increased further in quantum. The giants in Nilgiris locked valley have woken up. Here is the rainfall recorded in ghats of TN, Kerala and Cauvery Catchment on 04.08.2020
