W-NW movement cyclones are always rain filled cyclones unlike the pure west movement ones like Thane, Gaje or Vardah. From morning Chennai is seeing gusty winds though we expected gusts to touch 100 km/hr, a maximum of 70 km/hr is recorded at Meenambakkam at morning. But it is not the winds, it is the rains which caused maximum trouble to the people.
Tambaram topped Tamil Nadu charts with 314 mm rainfall in 24 hours, rainfall was also massive in Pondy, Cuddalore and Villupuram districts.
Next Low will form soon in 4 days and might become Depression too in Bay of Bengal. Lets hope the next one goes to Delta as a weak one, as they are due for rains this NEM. And If it moves near Delta the central interiors such as Namakkal, Salem, Erode, Trichy, Dindigul and Pudukootai too will get good rains. They have missed good rains so far this NEM.
Chennai has reached its full NEM quota of 840 mm rainfall for NEM and from here on any more rainfall will lead too excess and with a very good December ahead, we might go well into excess. A very good NEM for Chennai with all water supply lakes having good water and water released from Chembarabakkam too. Plentiful we have this year.
The easterlies continue to be active as Nivar moves in, we might get some rains in between too with the convergence close to coast in morning areas in next few days.
Chennai water supply lakes will see good inflows today and tomorrow as it takes time for water to come as runoff from various places. After that we can see drop in the inflows.
People may not be aware, that many officials from GCC, Revenue, Disaster Agency, TNEB, WRD,PWD and Police did not sleep and made sure nothing major happened. Our heartfelt thanks to them too.
