Hottest places on 21.03.2021 and Thunderstorms in ghat areas of TN-Kerala border

Intense Thunderstorms were seen in Valparai-Idukki-Thrissur belt and down south in Pathanamthitta-Kottayam-Theni-Thenkasi border areas. Kodaikanal also got decent spell.

The hottest places in Indian observatories are given below. Rayalaseema station Anantapur topped the country charts while 3 interior stations from Tamil Nadu made into the top 25.

Among the Metro cities, the coastal station of Mumbai and Chennai continued to remain cooler compared to the metros which where located inland. Delhi Temperature dropped a bit too.

And Chennai Temperature will continue to remain normal to below normal in coming days too.

Among Tamil Nadu, the western interior districts continued to top the charts. Today it was Erode which was the hottest in the State.

Heavy Rainfall for Kanyakumari & highwinds for KK, Pamban, Tuty, Vedaranayam- Delta belts

We have seen the template so many times, a cyclone crossing north AP or Odisha or West Bengal coast, the it activates the westerlies to  surge and converge over South Kerala and Kanyakumari regions. Even this year May month Cyclone Yaas when it crossed Odisha, Kanyakumari, Ramanathpuram-Pamban, Muthupet-Vedaranayam belt got to see high winds.

Heavy rainfall

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Kanyakumari and some heavy rains will happen over Tirunelveli ghat areas and Theni ghat areas. Some parts of Tuty will get heavy rains too. South Kerala districts such as Kollam, Idukki, Alapuzha, Pathanamthitta, Eranakulam are also in the path of heavy rains.

High Winds

Sustained Winds of 30-40 km/hr are expected in coastal areas of Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Delta belt around Vedaranayam tomorrow.  The gusts (occasional winds) with 55-65 km/hr will be expected in coastal belts of above areas, in addition Tirunelveli will also see the gusts at times. Hence, fishermen are kindly requested to stay at home for two more days in the South TN and South Kerala coast.

UAC to enhance rains in the Interior, West and South Tamil Nadu for next 2 days

Reasoning for rains – Whenever an upper Air Circulation (UAC) forms in south west monsoon (June-September) in South West bay off Tamil Nadu coast, it creates lots of convergence in the interior part of Tamil Nadu. Still the heat will be the trigger point for rains. However, the storms formed will have good synoptic support in the form of UAC and lasts longer.

With winds from east, the storms forming in the interiors will struggle to move into the coastal areas. So movement or steering of storms will be slow and stand and deliver rains will be seen in some locations.

Today – Districts like Dindigul, Tiruppur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Thirvannamalai, Vellore, Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Karur, Madurai, Coimbatore, Nilgiris ,Erode and many other interiors will be in hotspot for rains. South TN areas like nellai, thenkasi, theni, virudhunagar will also get rains.

Chennai – Delta got good rains in morning as it fell in southern side of the circulation. For Chennai outskirts will see some action and morning some puffy clouds will seen. For Chennai widespread rains, it needs to wait till 24/25 when UAC fades away and westerlies return.
