Depression as Low pressure moved into land on Wednesday. Century in Tiruvallur.

Finally after 5 days of teasing and testing patience of all, the Depression weakened as Low Pressure moved into on 23.11.2022 (wednesday afternoon). Yesterday evening it was located around Vellore.

Some Rains were reported in North Tamil Nadu but nothing significant. New Manali in Chennai topped with 51 mm rainfall. While in Tiruvallur there was a century in Tamaraipakkam and 70 mm in Kancheepuram.

When is the next widespread rains for Coast

Next one week light to moderate rains in morning are possible in KTCC and Coastal districts and due to dry and moist air mixing, it will be misty too. No widespread big spells are expected. South and West TN might get some odd rains too. Kongu belt in Tiruppur, Kovai, Erode and Dindigul will get some moderate rains between 25-29 November.

The next widespread rains is expected to December 2-3, 2022 plus or minus one day. It wont be a major spell but decent rains and the Key dates for Tamil Nadu to be watched will be around the 2nd to 4th week period of December with MJO and Equatorial Rossby wave in action.

2. Depression (2022) NEM
Expectation: Massive western band was expected to fall over Chennai. The Depression stayed 5 days near North TN coast and created Depression to all. Massive Bands in sea missed Chennai by just 50 kms
Nearby Rainfall: Thamaraipakkam 100 mm and Kancheepuram 70 mm.
Chennai Rains: 51 mm rains in New Manali but Nungambakkam 10 mm and Meenambakkam 0 mm.
Winds: 30 km/hr
Temp: One of the Top 10 coldest day ever with day temp dipped to 24.9 C. Chennai Snow trended in twitter.

3. Cyclone Jal (2010) NEM
Expectation: The first cyclone landfall that bloggers awaited for 100 km/hr wind, turned out to be dud.
Nearby Rainfall: Thirukalakundram near Mahabs got 220 mm while Kalpakkam 110 mm
City Rains: 50 mm
Winds: Direct landfall over Chennai but sheared and empty shell crossed City
Wind speed: 60 km/hr.
Temp: Breezy cold day with Maximum temp dipping to 26.1 C

4. Cyclone Gaja (2018) NEM
Expectation: Outerband in Chengalpet expected to fall over Chennai, but it remained there.
Nearby Rainfall: 110 mm rains at Chengalpet, 85 mm at Thiruporur
City Rains: 5-10 mm
Winds: Nothing on gusts for Chennai

5. Cyclone Madi (2013) NEM
Expectation: It was year of misses, all lows / cyclone went up to Andhra / Odisha except for one. Madi created huge expectation
Nearby Rainfall: Cheyyur 105 mm when making a South West Dip
City Rains: 10-15 mm rains, went down without giving much to Chennai.
Winds: Not much winds
Temp: Windy day and Maximum temp dipped to 27.6 C

6. November DD (2012) NEM
Expectation: One of the Worst november in history and a DD in north Andaman gave hope with SW dip
Nearby Rainfall: As usual with SW dip, Chengalpet got 140 mm in South and 140 mm in North to Tirupathi
City Rains: 1-5 mm rains, went down without giving much to Chennai.
Winds: Not much winds

7. Cyclone Khaimhuk (2008) NEM
Expectation: Driest November till that point (before Nisha days), northern band expected to fall over us.
Nearby Rainfall: So close, Tiruvallur district got good bands with 50-70 mm rains.
City Rains: 15-20 mm rains.
Winds: Gusts of 40 km/hr witnessed
Temp: Windy day and Maximum temp dipped to 28.7 C
